{8:30pm} Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +41 on Billy's BMT calendar. Todays counts are: WBC @ 11.40, RBC @ 3.42, Hemoglobin @ 11.2, platelets @ 80,000. ANC @ 10,488. Being that this is a new page, I'll point out the "NORMAL" blood count levels, which are:
WBC: 4.0 - 10.5
RBC: 4.20 - 5.60
Hemoglobin: 12.5 - 16.1
Platelets: 150.000 - 450.000
First of all, I would like to ask that you Please take a moment to pray for the Soul of Our Friend Michael, who passed away yesterday, after his battle with cancer was lost. He was our neighbor on BMT Avenue in ACH (2 south west). He was such a brave boy, and will truly be missed by all he touched.
Check out those counts*wink*, Up, Up, Up!! What a sight to see. Platelets at 80,000! Billy hasn't seen that since July of 2002, and an ANC of 10K+, I can't remember when it was at that level. I don't want to "jinx" anything by placing the "Logo" here stating the fact that Billy's Home, so I'll just whisper it, OK!! Shhhhhhhh.....Billy's Home!! Yep, we decided to give it another try*wink*. No really, We brought Billy Home around 4:30 this afternoon, got settled in, had a nice dinner, and Here I am! Billy wanted Spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic bread, That's what we had. Ama and Apa are here till tomorrow morning, so It was nice to sit down as a Family again*wink*. Dr. Petrovic was hoping to send Billy home tomorrow, but felt that today was as good as any day! Billy feels just Great, and he looks just as good. I will try to get a photo of Billy posted soon, my digital camera is a bit worn out I think*wink*, it has been taking some "lousy" photo's lately.

Billy will have to visit the Hospital (out patient Clinic) 3 times a week (Mon, Wed, and Fri) to have his counts monitored, and his Cyclosporine levels checked. We are to be there at 8:30am, and not stop until we are in a private room. We can not wait in the waiting room due to Billy's fragile condition, and Billy MUST wear a mask while he is in transit. Billy is not allowed contact with his cat for the next 50 days, or so either. I already installed a "gate" in the doorway of Billy's bedroom so Kitty can't get in. Kitty doesn't like the idea one bit *wink*. If all goes well, Billy and Kitty will be together sooner, than later! Billy's GVHD has calmed down to the point that, Billy's "rash" is barely noticeable. That doesn't mean that Billy is free from GVHD, it just means that it is a very "Mild" case, and we are so very thankful for that. I have a link to Our little Friend Hannah, if you'd like to visit her site, and leave her a note on her Guest book. You can CLICK HERE to visit this precious child's web site. Tell them Billy's Dad sent 'ya!!

Thank you to Billy's Friend Trevor B., Billy received your card today. Thank you, as well, to Guardian Angel Artist, Helen. Billy received your Card for Healing Masses, under the Special Patronage of St. Therese today, Thank you.
Please Pray for Billy.........................

Twelve years old and a trooper,
That's what Billy Gowacki is; Fighting to be well and healthy again,
Claiming the time that's his.

Smiling that million dollar smile,
As birthday presents arrive;
Grateful to all who remembered--
Friends and strangers alike.

Good wishes come from everywhere,
By e-mail, cards and phone.
And this one--especially from me
Is being sent in a poem.

So listen up, my new little friend.
Though we don't know each other,
You're being wished a Happy Birthday
By Eric Horner's mother.

Mary Horner Cossiboom {4-14-04}

Thank you so much for the Poem above, the Gift of Verse truly runs deep in your family. This really means alot to all of us, Thank you Mary.

Please Pray for Billy.........................

{5:00pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +42 on Billy's BMT calendar. I have no counts for you on this update, Billy had the day off*wink*. No Hospital, no IV meds, no beeping machines, no slamming doors, no 2:00am fire alarms, etc. Billy had a very restful nite sleep last night, and woke this morning in a fabulous mood. Billy had no nausea at all, and had no problem with his meds, including the Doxycycline which caused Billy's rash to be more evident. Billy's rash (GVHD), is very mild at this time, and is all but gone. Keep in mind that this is still a very serious condition, and it can turn on Billy very fiercely, at any time. Billy had eggs and toast for breakfast, and savored every bit of it! Billy was so looking forward to attending Geography class this afternoon, but there was no response in the "tele-class", which led us to believe that there was no class today.........go figure*wink*. Billy has been able to get his brace on by himself while he's at home, and get up on his own to do things, as well. Billy is anxious to get "on with it"(His Life).

Thank you to Uncle Tom, and Vanessa. Billy received your package today, and will open it on His Birthday, Sunday Apr. 18th. Thank you Mary M., and Family, from the "Soo". Billy received your card today!
Please Pray for Billy.........................

Billy's 12th Birthday is "This" Sunday, the 18th*wink*

{8:00pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +43 on Billy's BMT calendar. Todays counts are: WBC @ 18.7, RBC @ 3.78, Hemoglobin @ 12.1, platelets @ 74,000. ANC @ 15,600.{click ANC for definition}. We were at the Out patient Clinic this morning at 8:30 so that Billy could have his blood counts, and cyclosporine levels checked. As you can see(above), Billy's counts are "Fantastic", according to Dr's Petrovic, and Grana. Billy's WBC is ABOVE normal due to the prednisone (steroid) Billy is taking 4 times per day (22mg x 4 = 88mg). This is to combat the GVHD Billy is experiencing. Billy's ANC is above 15,000 for the first time in over a year, and he feels great due to the fact that his Hemoglobin is above 12.. We were home from the Clinic at around 11:00am, and unusually long visit.

Billy is adjusting fairly well to his "New Surroundings", HOME!! I say fairly, because the steroids are interrupting his sleep process, he is very restless, which is a normal side effect of the drug. Billy has had no obvious troubles in taking his medications since he was switched to oral meds from IV meds., and we really don't anticipate any *wink*. We asked Dr. Petrovic about a birthday cake for Billy on Sunday, and she advised against a "store bought" cake, due to the fact that the freshness would be in question. Billy is limited to what he can eat during the first 3-6 months of his transplant. Meals MUST be eaten within 30 min's of being cooked, and NO leftovers!! Drinks must also be consumed within 30 mins., and discarded after that time. Alicia plans on making a "FRESH" Birthday cake for Billy on Sunday*wink*. Other than having to take his meds. at 10am, 2pm, and 10pm, Billy has the weekend OFF, and is due back at the Clinic bright-n-early on Monday morning!!
Please Pray for Billy.........................

{7:00pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +44 on Billy's BMT calendar, and Billy's 3rd full day at Home*wink*. Billy had a good night, and woke in a good mood. Billy did lapse into a bit of depression this afternoon, and just wanted to be left alone. Billy is just so very bored, and can only do so much at Home. The pollen counts are pretty high out doors, so he didn't want to take a chance at going outside. The past few days have been such beautiful days, and all he can do is look out the window. He knows it won't be long before he is able to be outdoors, not having to worry about coming down with something that will put him back in the Hospital.

Billy did come around a bit, this afternoon. His attitude became a bit more pleasant, and he blames it on the steroids. We can understand that can be one of the unpleasent side effects of prednisone. Alicia takes prednisone at times to ease the pain of her MS. She can relate to how Billy feels, and told him to "be patient", as he gets a Grip on how it makes him feel.
What is prednisone?
Prednisone is in a class of drugs called steroids. Prednisone reduces swelling and decreases the body's ability to fight infections.
Prednisone is used to treat many different conditions. It is used to treat endocrine (hormonal) disorders when the body does not produce enough of its own steroids. It is also used to treat many disorders such as arthritis, lupus, severe psoriasis, severe asthma, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease.

We would like to acknowledge receipt of a package today for Billy!! Thank you to Wendy, from So.Carolina, and all the Sailors from the Sub Base in Groton, CT., and everyone else involved with the "Package"*wink*. Billy will open it tomorrow morning!!

I added a link to Hannah's web site below. Please visit Hannah's site, and let them know you care, and that you are adding her to your Prayer List's *wink*.
