{6:30pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +84 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.80, RBC @ 3.26, Hemoglobin @ 12.0, platelets @ 20,000. ANC @ 2,100.
Once again, here are what the Normal blood counts levels are:
WBC: 4.0 - 10.5
RBC: 4.20 - 5.60
Hemoglobin: 12.5 - 16.1
Platelets: 150.000 - 450.000
Billy had his course of IVIG today, and as most of you know, this was another very long Clinic visit which lasted a mere 8 hours *wink*. Dr. Petrovic did express her dismay, as to Billy's platelet level, and why it hasn't stabilized as of yet. Dr. Petrovic has attributed most of Billy's count levels to the many drugs he is taking. The immunosupressive drugs are just that, they suppress the immune system, which in turn, can cause the blood counts to suffer. Dr. Petrovic is certain we will see a more gradual stabilization of Billy's counts as he is weaned off some of his medications (slowly). Billy is now taking supplimentle potassium {20meq per day}, and as of today, he will be taking magnesium {400mg per day} as well. Billy's Prednisone (steroid) intake level is now down to 10mg x 3 times per day. If you remember, Billy was started on 22mg x 3 times per day, so he is now at less than half of what he started at. There have been no further signs of GVHD, which is why Dr. Petrovic is puzzled over Billy's platelet counts. Billy will be going back to the Clinic tomorrow to have his counts checked again, to ensure a good platelet count. He may need a transfusion if the levels fall below the 20,000 they were today. Due to the concern over Billy's counts, Dr. Petrovic has elected to do Billy's Bone Marrow Aspiration next Tuesday, on day +89, instead of waiting till day +100, as previously scheduled.

Thank you Brionna (and Mom) from Ohio, for the card Billy received today!

Please Pray for Billy.........................

{5:00pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +85 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 3.20, RBC @ 3.17, Hemoglobin @ 11.7, platelets @ 36,000. ANC @ 2,300.
Billy's visit to the Clinic this morning showed an upturn in Billy's Platelet counts by 16,000. Billy's WBC were also up a bit from yesterday's counts. Dr. Petrovic is content with the counts, and will go ahead with the aspiration on this coming Tuesday morning (the 1st of June). She was happy to see the "jump" in the platelet counts this close to the aspiration date, this will aide in the healing process of the puncture site in Billy's hip bone where the bone marrow will be taken from.

Some have asked, "exactly what does Billy have?" Well, if you CLICK HERE you will be able to read all about, and understand a bit more as to what MDS is, and what Billy has been battling for the past 8 months. Please remember, that this is a secondary cancer, caused by the cancer drugs Billy received while he battled Ewing's Sarcoma from Sept. 2002, thru Oct. 2003.

Memorial Day 2004
{4:30pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +88 on Billy's BMT calendar.
All is well here in Sunny St. Pete., Florida. Billy is doing just fine, although bored to no end at times *wink*. We will be at the Clinic bright and early tomorrow morning for Billy's next Bone Marrow Aspiration. As always, we are hoping for 100% donor cells, and clear of any cancer cells.

I would like to point out Our latest link (below) to a very Precious young Lady named Whitney. Whitney was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma just two short weeks ago. Although her website is in it's infancy, I would invite you all to visit her through her website, and let her know you are thinking, praying, and standing by her through all of her pain and suffering. Please let her know you were there, and sign her guest book; we all know how rewarding it is to read these entries *wink*. Please tell her Billy's Dad sent you *wink*

Everyday is Memorial day to a Veteran

{4:30pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +89 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.60, RBC @ 3.17, Hemoglobin @ 11.6, platelets @ 9,000. ANC @ 1,800.
As you can see above, Billy's counts have taken a "plunge". Dr. Petrovic is totally bewildered by this, and is happy to get a chance to look at Billy's bone marrow. Yes, the Bone Marrow Aspiration was done this afternoon, and Dr. Petrovic will call us this evening (hopefully) with some sort of an explanation as to why Billy's counts have acted as they have. These are the times we "dread", the wait can be terrible............., and the news can be worse. I will try and update you later this evening, as the information is known to us.

We want to thank you all for stopping by to see Whitney, and hope your Thoughts and Prayers will have the very same healing effect as they've had with Billy.

{7:00pm}We just heard from Dr. Petrovic, and as expected, the news was not that of which, we wanted to hear. There is definitely something going on in Billy's bone marrow that is causing it to produce far too few white blood, and platelet cells. Dr. Petrovic has ordered a complete Bone Marrow Biopsy to be done. This will be done as soon as possible, if not this week, then early next week. This process is similar to the aspiration that was done today, but with the biopsy a piece of marrow tissue is also removed for microscopic evaluation. One of the possibilities we were presented with was that, Billy's own (old) bone marrow could be making a comeback, and another is that, Billy's GVHD is more active than it is presenting. Another skin biopsy will also be done at the same time as the Bone Marrow Biopsy is done. I asked Dr. Petrovic, "Did we hit a brick wall?", she replied, "we sure did."

{6:30pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +90 on Billy's BMT calendar. Billy is doing pretty good, considering what he may be up against next week. Yes, Dr. Petrovic has decided to do the Bone Marrow Biopsy next Wednesday morning. We tried to explain to Billy what is going on, but things are a bit vague to us as well. We have learned over the past 22 months, to cross each bridge when, and only when you get to it. So, we will not get involved in the "guessing game" at this point. Billy has always "gone with the flow", but is starting to show sign's of concern, and has begun to withdraw somewhat. I guess you can say that, we (Alicia, Billy, and I) are all stuck in a shell of sorts. We will be at the Clinic at 8:30 tomorrow morning for another set of blood tests (CBC's)

We would like to thank Uncle Tom, and Vanessa, for the wonderful gift Billy received today. It was a collection of authentic coins from the World War II years of 1941-1945. The coin collection was presented in it's own case, with certificate of authenticity, and plaque explaining each and every coin. Also included, was a Florida State Seal Coin in Pure Silver, a 1935 (silver) Liberty Dime, and another coin of .999 Silver. Billy said, "Thanks Guy's, I think I found a new Hobby."

{6:30pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +91 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.80, RBC @ 3.06, Hemoglobin @ 11.4, platelets @ 16,000. ANC @ 1,900.
Still no results yet from the aspiration, but Billy's count's reflect something is wrong. Billy's white and red blood counts are lower, and after a platelet transfusion on Monday, Billy's platelets are only at 16,000. Billy received another 7 units of platelets this afternoon. Dr. Petrovic stopped the Doxycycline Billy was taking, and replaced it with another drug of the same type called Clindamycin (300mg x 3 times per day), to see if this may reduce the effects the Doxycycline had on Billy's counts.
Billy has to be at the Hospital at 8:00am Saturday morning for more tests, and again on Monday for counts. Billy will be admitted for a few hours on Wednesday, to have the Bone Marrow Biopsy done, and Dr. Petrovic has opted to have a sample of fluid drawn from around the temporary prosthesis that is in Billy's leg to check for possible infections. A skin biopsy will be done as well while Billy is under sedation.

{12:30pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +93 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.74, RBC @ 2.88, Hemoglobin @ 11.4, platelets @ 36,000. ANC @ 1,600.
First of all, I would like to invite you to visit All Childrens Hospital by clicking HERE, and maybe making a pledge, Today is Our annual Telethon, that runs through tomorrow. I can't begin to tell you how important this is. They are ALL doing such a fantastic job, in doing all that they can to save Our Childrens Lives. "Building Miracles from the Inside Out"

Billy is feeling pretty good today, and after his recent platelet transfusion, his Platelet count jumped up another 20,000. In a phone call last night at 9:00pm, Dr. Petrovic informed us that Billy's test results are back from the previous Bone Marrow Aspiration, and we are more than HAPPY, to report that Billy's bone marrow shows that he is STILL 100% donor, and there is no evidence of Billy's "old" bone marrow making a return. The Bone Marrow Biopsy is still scheduled for Wednesday morning the 9th.

Billy would like to send out a "special Thank you" to John P's. Mom, for bringing him by to spend some time with Billy yesterday! They had a Great time, and hope to do it again soon!

Please Pray for Billy.........................
