Thur. 25 May. 2006  Today is the 813th day on Billy's transplant calendar.
1,340 day's, living in the "World of cancer".

Yesterdays blood counts: WBC@ 12.04, RBC@ 4.45, Hemoglobin@ 14.3, platelets@ 297,000. ANC@ 5800. Billy wasn't feeling well, so we took him to the Dr. yesterday, thus, the blood counts. As you can see, his WBC is elevated quite a bit. Billy was complaining of an ear ache, and his left eye lid was swollen and red. Turns out Billy has a very common virus, and an ear infection which is also affecting his eye. He will be taking anti-biotics for 2 weeks, and will visit the Dr. again next week for a follow-up. Billy is managing pretty well with the fracture in his right foot, and is in a walking cast while he is on his feet. Billy is adjusting well to the fact that school's out for summer, and is catching up on his "R and R" *wink*. We got the "OK" from his Dr's so that he can attend Camp Boggy Creek again this year (July 1 - 8), and he is really looking forward to it. If you remember, last year he spent 3 days in the infirmary when he caught a "bug" from one of the other camper's. As a matter of fact, half the camp came down with the bug (stomach virus) last year.
Thank you all for your continued Support, Thought's, and Prayer's.

Please Pray for Billy........................and EVERY Child of Cancer

click photo to view larger image {click photo to view larger} Today was the final day of School for Billy, and the 8th Grade Graduating Class had their Graduation Awards Ceremony this morning in the Southside Fundamental School's Auditorium; and What a Ceremony it was. So very much Honor, and Pride filled the Auditorium as the Students were presented with their individual Honor's and Award's. As each Student walked up to the Stage, and the audience applauded, you could see and hear the Pride. The Parents in the audience were filled with emotion, as the individual presenters magnified the Students achievements, as they were introduced. I can tell you of two Parents who were OVERCOME with emotion as a story was told by the Assistant Principal, of their Son. There wasn't a dry eye in the house, as the Assistant Principal (Mr. Ateek) explained that this very Special Award, The Assistant Principal's Outstanding Student Award, meant so very much to him. Not only as an Administrator, but as a Human Being. He spoke of this Students ever present smile; he spoke of this Students cheerful disposition; he spoke of this Students incredible attitude; he spoke of this Students obvious ambitions; he spoke of this Students daily challenges that would have broke the best of us; he spoke of this Students unwillingness to give up; he spoke of this Students Hospital stays, weeks at a time; he spoke of this Students battle with cancer. But most of all, he spoke of this Student. The Assistant Principal, with a tear in his eye, and a crackle in his voice; called out the name of this Very Special Student and the Whole auditorium rose to their feet and applauded, cried, and cheered; for this very Special Student. Our Son, Billy, walked down the isle and up the stairs and across the stage. He was presented with this Very Special Award, by a Very Proud Assistant Principal and Staff. Every single person in the Auditorium was Proud of Our Son, and what he has had to overcome to reach this point in life. Living in the "World of Cancer" hasn't been easy on any of us. Billy has been fighting 2 cancer's for almost 4 years now, and has not wavered. People are amazed at what Billy was able to accomplish during these almost 4 years. People are amazed, Billy isn't. From day one, Billy said "Bring It On", and didn't give in because he knew he had to be strong in MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT to beat cancer. For Being strong in MIND Billy was also presented with:

  • Assistant Principal's Outstanding Student Award 2006
  • The President's Outstanding Academic Excellence Award
  • The Highest Academic Award / Spanish
  • Honor Roll for the entire School Year 2006
  • Exemplary Behavior Award for the entire School Year 2006
  • Honor Pass / 1 year
  • Honor Pass / 2 year's
For being strong in BODY, Billy mantained his will; and for being strong in SPIRIT Billy is a survivor.

Wed. 10 May. 2006  Today is the 799th day on Billy's transplant calendar.
1,326 day's, living in the "World of cancer".

We hope this update finds you all well. We got the results back today from ACH, and it appears as though Billy has a couple fracture's in his right foot. He doesn't remember injuring it, but it has been bothering him for a few weeks now. We will be heading over to Dr. Letson, in Tampa, tomorrow morning for furthur evaluation and x-rays. Dr. Letson said that he'll probably put Billy in a cast. Dr. Letson will also look into why Billy's knee has been bothering him as well. Billy's right leg is now about 1 1/2" shorter than the left, so we'll probably get a date for his next lengthening tomorrow as well *wink*.

We would like to thank everyone for their thought's and Prayer's regarding Alicia's surgery today. The surgery went very well, and she is home resting comfortably.

Please stop by Emily's, and leave her some comforting thought's in her guestbook; she is not feeling very well. Thanks *wink*.

Sun. 7 May. 2006  Today is the 796th day on Billy's transplant calendar.
1,323 day's, living in the "World of cancer".

We hope this update finds you all well. Alicia's Sister Ana, Ana's Husband Frank, and their Daughter Sofia; have been with us for the weekend as a stop over before their trip to Disney tomorrow. Alicia's Brother "Fern" is also with us for the weekend, and will be on his way to Miami tomorrow to visit with his Parents (Ama and Apa).
Billy is doing well, and is gearing up for the last full week of School. This School year ends next Wednesday the 16th, and will resume in mid-August. Billy hope's to be able to attend Camp Boggy Creek again this year (July 1 - 8). He had a great time there last year, and said he can use the "time away". We just need the "OK" from his Dr's *wink*.
Please give Emily and Mia a visit, as they can use a bit of support (thanks), tell 'em Billy sent 'ya!

click photo to see a larger versionThings have been really "crazy" around here for the past week or so *wink*. Billy is doing well, and is counting down the last 10 days of School! He is also getting his new "Axe" (guitar) all tuned and ready for tour!!
ERIC HORNER, along with his "right hand Man" Arnie; made a "few phone call's", and this Beautiful brand new Hamer solid body electric guitar arrived for Billy's Birthday! Ever since Eric came into our Live's, almost 4 years ago, Billy has been very much involved in learning how to play the guitar. Eric presented Billy with one of his very special acoustic guitars during Billy's cancer treatment, but refused to play it in fear of rubbing off the signature that Eric had signed! Go Figure!! Billy had hinted at wanting an electric guitar for his Birthday, but after noticing the $$$$$$$ tags on the one's he was interested in, we tried to stear him in another direction. Anyway........Eric wouldn't have none of that, and if Billy wanted an electric guitar, he would do everything in his power to see that Billy has his Birthday wish. Yes, you can click on the photo to see a larger version!!
Although Eric, Arnie, and the "gang" were responsible for getting the word out about the Guitar, the person(s) who made it a reality remains anonymous to us. We (Alicia, Billy, and I) have asked, in vain, to know who it is. We would like to Thank you, who ever you are *wink*. Just leave Billy a note in his guestbook! He really Love's his Guitar, and will be taking lessons over the summer vacation!
